Diary transcripts, 1861-1866.

The collection consists of four folders. The first two folders contain Conwell family genealogical information and photo copies of family photographs. The last two folders are photocopies of Conwell's diary and correspondence between family and friends. The diary covers the year 1863 and gives details of fights and Conwell's injury.

Isaac R. Conwell was born 23 April 1839 and was a resident of Liberty, Indiana. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 20 September 1861 and was commissioned into B. Company of the 2nd indiana Cavalry Regiment. The regiment left the state on 16 December 1861 and was actively engaged throughout the war. Conwell was wounded during the Battle of Lookout Mountain in November 1863. He survived and was promoted to captain. Conwell mustered out on 4 October 1864.
